M4V to SRT, Apple video to subtitles

Convert M4V to an SRT subtitle file
M4V is the video format iTunes and Apple TV use for purchased and rented content. It is structurally similar to MP4 but may carry Apple FairPlay DRM on purchased files. SnailText handles unprotected M4V files, which includes personal recordings, exports from iMovie, and any M4V you created yourself.
You get a separate .srt file ready to attach to the video in any player or editor. M4V uses a one-time codec pack the app downloads for you.
How to convert M4V to SRT
- Open the Transcribe files screen in SnailText.
- Add your M4V video (or a folder of videos).
- Choose SRT as the output before you run it.
- Run it. The .srt file is saved next to your video.

M4V to SRT free, without uploading the video
Online subtitle generators upload your video to a server. SnailText does it locally: the video stays on your computer, there is no length limit, and no watermark. M4V uses a one-time codec pack the app downloads for you, then runs offline.
SnailText works on unprotected M4V files. DRM-protected iTunes purchases cannot be read by any local tool. If you need SRT from a file you created or exported from iMovie, it will work.
If you only want the plain transcript of an M4V rather than a subtitle file, the M4V to text page covers that.
