Convert WebM to an SRT subtitle file

WebM is the open video format produced by browser-based screen recorders, some meeting tools, and web downloads. SnailText extracts the audio, transcribes the speech with the Whisper model, and writes a phrase-level SRT, all on your machine.

You get a separate .srt file you can attach to the video in any player or editor, not captions burned in.

How to convert WebM to SRT

My browser recorded a WebM - how do I add subtitles?

What is the difference between WebM to SRT and WebM to text?
WebM to SRT produces a timed subtitle file (.srt) you attach to the video. WebM to text produces a plain transcript with no timestamps. SnailText does both, you just pick the output before the run.
Does SnailText burn the subtitles into the video when I use WebM to SRT?
No. SnailText writes a separate SRT and VTT file and does not hardcode captions into the video. That keeps the subtitles editable and lets you attach them in any player or editor. If you want them burned in, overlay the file in a video editor afterward.
