WebM to VTT
WebM to VTT, browser recordings to web captions
Turn a WebM video from a browser recorder or screen capture tool into a VTT (WebVTT) caption file on your own computer. SnailText reads the audio, transcribes the speech, and writes the VTT - no upload and no per-minute meter.

Convert WebM to a VTT caption file
WebM is the open video format produced by browser-based screen recorders, some meeting tools, and web downloads. VTT (WebVTT) is the caption format HTML5 video players accept natively - so if you recorded something in a browser and want captions for the web, WebM-to-VTT is a natural pairing.
SnailText extracts the audio, transcribes the speech with the Whisper model, and writes a phrase-level VTT, all on your machine. You get a separate .vtt file, not captions burned into the video.
How to convert WebM to VTT
- Open the Transcribe files screen in SnailText.
- Add your WebM video (or a folder of videos).
- Choose VTT as the output before you run it.
- Run it. The .vtt file is saved next to your video, ready to use.

WebM to VTT free, without uploading the video
Online tools that accept WebM upload it to a server. SnailText does it locally: the video stays on your computer, there is no length limit, and no watermark. WebM uses a one-time codec pack the app downloads for you, then runs offline.
If you need SRT instead of VTT, the WebM to SRT page covers that. SnailText exports both, you just pick before the run.
