Convert WAV to a VTT caption file

WAV is the lossless format used by field recorders, podcast production tools, and studio software. VTT (WebVTT) is what HTML5 video players and streaming platforms accept for captions. SnailText bridges the two: it reads the WAV, transcribes the speech with the Whisper model, and writes a phrase-level VTT, all on your machine.

You get a separate .vtt file, not captions burned into anything, so they stay editable and work in any player or site that accepts WebVTT.

Does WAV quality improve VTT caption accuracy?
Lossless WAV gives Whisper clean input with no compression artifacts, which often produces more accurate captions than a highly compressed format. Higher sample rates are automatically resampled to 16 kHz before inference.

VTT (WebVTT) is the web-native format accepted by HTML5 video and streaming platforms. SRT is older and more widely supported in media players and editing tools. SnailText generates both, you pick before the run.
Does SnailText burn the subtitles into the video when I use WAV to VTT?
No. SnailText writes a separate VTT file and does not hardcode captions into the video. That keeps the subtitles editable and lets you attach them in any player or editor. If you want them burned in, overlay the file in a video editor afterward.
